Making the colder months count

The days are short. It’s cold. It’s hard to stay motivated to do much in winter… unless it involves endless hours (or days 😉) on the couch bingeing on Netflix.

Although we’re on board with a good Netflix binge sesh, it doesn’t stack up in the long run. All it takes is a little exercise, a balanced diet and some good shut eye to get you on your way to staying fit and healthy this winter.

Here are our top tips to doing just that.

Exercise

Start small

This isn’t about being the next Ninja Warrior. Just start with small amounts of exercise. This could be a 20 minute walk. 10 push ups, 10 sit ups and 10 squats while watching your fav show. Anything is better than nothing.

Go with a friend

You’re way less likely to skip a workout if someone else is counting on you. Use it as an excuse to socialise, encourage each other and learn new techniques for getting more out of your workout.

Do what you love

Or don’t do what you don’t love. If you don’t love cardio, don’t commit to running 10km every day for a week. Instead, meet your friends at a local park for an arvo of kicking the footie around, hit of few golf balls at Golf Central or jump on the bike to go for Sunday brekkie of smashed avo on sourdough.

If you need a little extra help, Jetts Skygate has a qualified team of trainers to help you make the most of your winter workouts. Enjoy 24/7 access, no lock-in contracts, free HIIT classes and free access to more than 250 gyms worldwide when you become a member at Jetts Skygate.

Eat right

Without good nutrition you could be more prone to getting sick in winter. That means getting the right amount of fruits, veggies, grains, protein, dairy and oils.

Woolworths at Skygate is open 24/7 with heaps of healthy meal inspo including Teriyaki Salmon Poke Bowl, 15-minute Thai Beef Salad with Rice Noodles and 28 By Sam Wood Skinny Carbonara. Our mouth is watering just thinking about it… yum.

Not everyone loves their fruit and vege though. If you’re missing any key vitamins and minerals, talk to your pharmacist about the right mix of vitamin supplements for you. Direct Chemist Outlet at Skygate stock all the big vitamin brands at super low prices.

And of course… drink plenty of water.

Get plenty of sleep

This seems like a no brainer. Getting sleep totally impacts your productivity, immunity and mental health.

Avoiding late night eating or screen time. Cutting back on alcohol. Making it a habit to go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day. Optimising your bedroom environment. Getting a comfy bed. They’re all ways that could help you get a better night’s rest.

Skygate Home & Life has a great range of beds, mattresses, manchester and bedroom décor to get your room ready for catching some serious zzz’s.

Remember, it’s super important to talk to your doctor about what’s right for you. The medical team at Sonic Health Skygate are ready to answer any of your questions about keeping fit and healthy in winter, plus they accept walk-ins.
