Did you know that every year, approximately 3 billion beverage containers are produced in Queensland? Even more staggering is the fact that these containers are the second most littered item in the state, despite the fact they can be easily recycled.

Beverage container litter is largely associated with drink consumption in public settings such to as airports, parks, beaches, shopping centres and car parks. The impact of littering to the environment is greater in Queensland as it poses a significant threat to our beautiful marine life and one of our greatest natural assets, the Great Barrier Reef.

BAC believes action is required to preserve our marine environment and has partnered with EnviroBank to deliver the Queensland Government’s Container Refund Scheme (CRS) here at the airport. The CRS gives people an incentive to collect and return eligible containers for recycling, in exchange for a 10 cent refund payment.

A refund Smart Pod has been installed in the DFO Multi-Level Carpark which allows airport staff and general public to sign up to the scheme and start earning. Alternatively, a loading zone is locating directly next to the Enviropod and there is ample free open parking around the Skygate Centre and DFO. Click here to view the map.

The EnviroBank Bags are available at the Pod machine.
