STRATOSPHERICAL

Where you become the artist. Stratospherical is a live collaborative community-based sculpture by Leonie Rhodes where children create colourful plasticine people in one hour workshops. Each child’s work of art is then displayed together to form a striking sculpture to be enjoyed by all. This work gives each child, each crafty set of hands and their character, an artistic platform to soar.

 

The overall sculpture visually depicts the vibrant nature of our global community, and conveys how we can enrich and improve ourselves and grow when we come together, learning from each other and working together.

 

The sculpture uses the ancient spiral form and Fibonacci sequence in its skeletal structure to depict the vibrant nature of our global community.  Combining this with bright modern materials and the unique character and autonomy of young people’s work, it evokes an experience of rich diversity, balance, intrigue and human-unity. 0. 1. 1. 2. 3. 5. 8. 13. 21. 34. 55. 89. 144. 233. 610...

 

When: Daily workshop at 10am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3pm (Max 20 children per workshop)

MAKE A ROO

Create your own specially-designed three-dimensional kangaroo mask during Make A Roo, a free workshop for children during Art with Altitude. Make a Roo is drawn from the ‘Kangaroo Crew’ exhibition by Indigenous Australian artist Gordon Hookey currently on display at the Children's Art Centre, Gallery of Modern Art.

 

Children can make and personalise a mask based on the kangaroo species in the ‘Kangaroo Crew’ exhibition – Blue the Plains kangaroo, Potsy the Potoroo, Treez the Tree kangaroo and Rocko the Rock wallaby.

 

When: 10am to 4pm daily
